Looking back on the early episodes, it’s striking how much of the humour relies on finding excuses for Brent Spiner to say something wildly incongruous with a perfectly straight face. I know it’s weird to praise an actor for lack of affect, but Spiner’s impenetrable poker face carries whole scenes.

there’s nothing that will make me laugh more than the fact that sarek, when addressing his human wife, does not say “amanda”, or “darling” or even “ashayam” which would make sense, he just goes “my wife”. he’ll be calling to her from the other end of the supermarket like “my wife??!” like an idiot but an idiot who is john mulaney-levels proud of being married
